Recently there I came across a news. It mentioned of the steady rise of the number of HIV infected people in India. The figures are mind boggling and the situation is pathetic.

Everybody thinks that AIDS is not going to come to him. No way! Na Da! The rich think that they are very clean maintain hygiene and hence the HIV virus is a distant fellow for them.

The middleclass person is loyal to his wife or you can say local to a group for his activities but forgets to see that the other partners may be moving in bigger circles and thus bringing the HIV threat. 

Now comes the poorer cousins. Although, the rate of HIV positive is found very high in this class because of their extra marital activities, it is the ignorance and stubborn refusal to accept the fact of AIDS, they become victim one day.

It is not a matter of death or being afraid of death. When a person dies of AIDS he is at the peak of his productivity. The nation and the society looses a productive person. He may be an architect or a construction worker. A vegetable vendor or an airline pilot!

It is our responsibility, a joint task to stop this catastrophe of AIDS. We need to practice safe sex and the use of condom is a first step towards it. 

Although no contraceptive is 100% effective, it greatly reduces the chances of catching the virus as compared to unsafe sex.

• USE CONDOMS.

• PRACTICE SAFE SEX.

One interesting fact: Weavers in Uttar Pradesh state use condoms to wear on the fingers. Due to the silicon coating on the condom, the weaver easily separates the threads and fix it in the weaving grill. It eases the work a lot!
