There are lot of
people who are curious about the former Soviet Union and the newly
formed CIS economies. Many people think that there is lot of
business and rush to the site without checking the details.
Naturally, they end
up a looser. There are certain rules to be followed before
entering the Baku market. Follow these and you will be relatively
safe.

Get a local
partner to distribute the products.

Get a clear idea
of what lines to start.

Start with your
own brand that exists in other countries. This give you an
advantage of saying: "OUR BRAND XFOAM NOW VISITS BAKU.
THIS BRAND IS CURRENTLY BEING SOLD IN 12 COUNTRIES." This
gives comfort to the Azeri community making them closer to the
world class consumers!

Try to get
credit facility for your Azeri distributor. For example
Government of India promoted Exim Bank of India offer line of
credit to the importer from Azerbaijan (if found qualified).
This eases the pressure on the Azeri buyer to raise the
capital and he can sincerely concentrate on selling. This is
most important.

Have a proper
agreement formatted, stamped and signed by you so that the
Azeri importer and register the same quickly at the ministry (MOH)
and start the operations.

Always quote on
CIF Baku on L/c terms for the first few times. Say 3 times you
can export via L/c. After that the Azeri distributor would be
happy to transfer the money directly to your bank account.
